Dark Phoenix Review
Dark Phoenix Review

Dark Phoenix is the 12th film in the X-Men universe and the seventh film in the main X-Men series. I saw the Rotten Tomatoes score and I was worried about this film. I wanted this film to be good quite badly. I really like this cast and wanted this film to be good without the dodgy Bryan Singer. However, I did not like this film and was massively disappointed with this film.
First of, at the beginning of the film, it just didn't feel cut right to me. Everything was too jumpy and just didn't feel cut right. The scenes alongside each other didn't seem right to me, I don't really know how to put this into common speech and probably won't make sense to most people. Anyway, another problem I had with this film is the constant music. It took away from the drama and the acting. Why have Oscar-nominated actors and actresses if the tension is undercut with music. I am a massive fan of soundtracks and a good one which this probably is, adds so much to a movie. This one used by the producers is not good, it's too loud. The best scores and soundtracks are ones where the movie is amplified by said music, in this case, it ruins some potentially great scenes.
Another problem I had with this movie was just the boring nature of it. Even the characters in the film just had enough of this film series. Jennifer Lawrence has been bored with these films since Days of Future Past. It's honestly a shame but Fox can't handle these movies and most of them are quite nightmarish looking back. Hopefully, when the X-Men characters move to Disney, the results will be better and the films would be more rewarding as a result.
However, there were some positives behind this movie in my eyes. McAvoy was a highlight for me in this film as he usually is, although Charles always needs to be negated or he is partly at fault which does piss me off. This is probably Cyclops' best movie so far and he is given some moments to shine. He saved Jean when Charles could do nothing. The final train scene is partially redeemable in this movie. Especially when all the characters break from their shackles and attack the things in the movie. Very similar to what has been done in Avengers movies previously but still nevertheless a cool moment and was a good pay off for the years dedicated to this franchise.
On the whole, this film was a complete letdown and a disappointing way to end Fox's love affair with Marvel comics. There were some decent bits but most of the film just didn't work for me. It could be the adaptation problem for the Dark Phoenix saga or may be the shortcomings of the directors and producers of this film but it just didn't work for me
And that is what Jenka has to say
