Crazy Rich Asians Review

Crazy Rich Asians
Rating:★★★★★ (4)

Crazy Rich Asians (CRA) is a film that I have wanted to see for a while but put off for some reason. This movie is very well reviewed and I can see why. I didn't neccesarliy dislike many things about this movie and this review will be positive on the whole.

Crazy Rich Asians in a shock to everyone has a completely Asian cast. This film is very progressive and follows the trends of recents years. I need to word this perfectly otherwise I am going to come across as some sort of bigot which I am not for sure but that is probably what a bigot would say, so here goes. I don't like equality and all that jazz shoved down my throat. Like that scene in Avengers: Endgame where all the female characters magically appeared next to each other and was a rousing scene of female characters. I did like this bit but I just feels a bit odd and like its being forced down my throat. However, with this film, I felt completely different. The plot and the setting demanded being set in Singapore. Could the film be remade into an American or somewhere white setting, yes pretty easily but it wasn't. Young rich Asians will now have people to look up to in the future which as a white male, I have always had an abundant of choices of this, which I only have recently realised is a luxury.

All characters in this are amazing and although there are so many which does make it quite hard to follow. Ken Jeong is a hero of mine and his limited screen time in this film is incredibly memorable. I also really liked Constance Wu as the lead and at times she very much carried this movie on her shoulders. Looking at how good this movie did turn out, shows the job and how her shoulders must have ached after. Before watching this film, Awkawfina annoyed me due to the fact that she is fucking everywhere. However, after watching this film, I completely understand it and feel she was 2018's Tiffany Haddish, who recieved such treatment after her film Girls Trip. Her relationship with Constance Wu is one of this film's strongest parts.

Another part which I liked about this film and this may be completely off base but hear me out. I think I heard a cover of Yellow by Coldplay but in a different language. I don't want to guess the language because there is a high chance that I am extremely wrong and then I am now a racist bigot. If I am correct this is a lovely touch and adds even more to the strong Asian feel of this film. Although made in America, this feels right out of Singapore. The set design also adds to this feel.

I have only got downside to this film and I seemed to check out for periods of this film. This is why it did not achieve a full 5 rating. I zoned out for bits and seemed to be lost by the characters. This may be just down to be low attention span but I have to discredit the film for this reason but on the whole not many complaints on my end.

This film is one which I would highly reccomend, funny with a nice uplifiting story of a woman who fights and battles against her class. Throughly enjoyable with only one negative which could be a result of my low attention span

And that is what Jenka has to say

P.s. I will be reviewing all nominees for the Mercury prize so if you like my musical reviews you have that to look forward to. I'm also trying to watch a film a day so follow my twitter @jenkasays for all latest releases of my reviews.
