Phase 3 tierlist

S: Avengers: Infinity War. Honestly, great film. Probably the finest film of the MCU. Thanos is one of the best villains, raising serious points although perhaps genocide on half of the universe wouldn't be the best idea. I even enjoy the side quest with Rocket and Thor although Eitri creeps me out. Thor's entrance is fucking epic and gets me pumped and gives me goosebumps every time I see it. However, my favorite moment in this comes when Thanos gets a moon on Titan and breaks it up and sends it at Iron Man. There is little reaction and a bewildered look on Tony's face and that says it all, he's just a man and he has a fucking moon hurtling towards him. Its one of the greatest cliffhangers off all time and is a defining comic book film, and one of the best in the MCU.

Thor: Ragnarok. I'm a Taika Waititi fan boy. A movie with Taika's comedy and weirdness with Marvel's multi million pound pursestrings, has all the makings of a sure-fire hit. However, you cannot underestimate what Taika did in this film. Chris Hemsworth is perfect as the comedy lead, especially compared with his sombre and stoic performances in the other films. Its the best version of Hulk that we have seen so far and there are some great additions in the Grandmaster, Valkyrie and everyones favorite Korg. Hela could have been a great villain but only really is average.

Avengers: Endgame. This film is not the greatest MCU film and does not really stand up as its own film. However, what this movie does perfectly is wrap up 11 years of films and continuity whilst still working as a very good film in its itself. The final battle scene is as close to perfection as comic book films may ever be. The audience reactions are some of the best I have been apart of. When Falcon first says on your left after the second snap, it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. I don't like Fat Thor and the humor is so obvious and tedious after the first couple of hundreds. There could be some interesting discussions about mental health but instead Thor's depression was treated as jovial matter. The scene with all the female characters teaming up with the Infinity Gauntlet is intended to be empowering but comes across as fake represenatation. There are better ways to highlight empowering strong female characters, which this movie has many without the improbable nature of this meeting. Still, this film does what many thought it couldn't, and tied up so many loose ends very well. This may not be the best MCU film but no cinematic experience may ever come close.

Black Panther. People hate this film and the only reason I can possibly see why is the third act between Killmonger and T'Challa. Yes that scene is horrific and is so bad it takes you completely out of the film. However, the rest of the film is fucking good. Killmonger is a great villain raising interesting questions about Wakanda sharing their wealth, albeit completing some more mass genocide. The Wakandans would be the colonizers in Killmonger's scenario, an interesting take on past history. A majority black cast and crew, which is culturally significant and also the first MCU film to win an Oscar. RIP Chadwick, Wakanda forever.

A: Spiderman: Homecoming. After the great introduction of Spiderman in Civil War, this film is a solid introduction and character setting up. Any film with Michael Keaton in it is is gonna be half decent and he is good in this. The suit is a bit gimmicky but nothing compared to the vulture in the comic books. Tom Holland just seems like he's having a blast in this movie and is so full of energy and charisma. A good blend of both Tobey and Andrew. The window scene is very funny and made a chuckle throughout it. A nice solid feel good film.

B: Doctor Strange. This film is a good starting point for the series with some great looking magic sequences. Cumberbatch is excellent as he always tends to be. The magic is toned down for the wider audience and is a lot more interesting in Infinity War. However, this film has a lot of wasted potential. Baron Mordo is boring and will probably be better in the sequel. Mads Mikkelsen is another boring Marvel villain but the few scenes he is in, he excels. The throwaway comment about the Ancient One using the dark dimension for our power. However, this film does very little with this and especially hiring Tilda Swinton to do absolutely nothing with the character really.

Antman and the Wasp. A solid film with the charm of Paul Rudd but suffers from the fact that this came out straight after Infinity War. Its not a bad film but after what we have just witnessed, it feels very flat. It introduces the Quantum Realm which is obviously very important in Endgame and I think it will be important for the rest of the MCU. Ghost feels like a wasted villain with both the actress feeling subpar and her overall substance of role lacking. Not bad and you will have a good time whilst watching it but after it, you will never really want to revisit it.

Spiderman: Far From Home. Its better than average. Tom Holland is charming but it feels like the movie passes you by whilst not much really happens. Mysterio is a good villain and somehow make the dome-shape supervillain, seem plausible with the whole crew working behind the scene. The supporting characters are average but Tom Holland and Zendaya do have chemistry, which is surprising given they are a real couple. Looking back upon No Way Home this film doesn't stand up but its a fun film, with nothing really being important until the final scene with JK Simmons returning to the role he was born to play.

C: Captain Marvel. Brie Larson is good in this role and gets a load of unnecessary hate for standing up what she believes in. However, this film is boring and I think it relies too much on nostalgia. The return of Fury, Coulson and others are some of the biggest but the movie doesn't really build upon this and it is mostly just fan service. Sometimes this isn't a bad thing but this movie doesn't really add or build anything upon this. Not bad but could be a lot better.

Captain America: Civil War. I think this film is really bad. It is barely a film and is just a collection of moments. The airport scene and Buckys escape are some great moments in this, some shit you would do with toys when you were younger. Spiderman and Black Panther are great introductions to the characters and maybe it is too low but it pisses me off how well regarded this film is. Zemo's plan is stupid and how he takes any form of credit for the sheer amount of luck that transpired. The film is quite boring and only times it really picks up after the airport scene. Also the Sokovia accords are stupid.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2. Another funny film but it is trying too hard. It is a laugh a minute and there are some very funny moments but it doesn't need to be as funny as this is trying to be. The sequel lacks the heart of the original. Drax is only comedic relief and has become a pretty one-dimensional character by this point. Chris Pratt is Chris Pratt, so that good but shame he will never hit the heights of Andy Dwyer. Baby Groot is incredibly cute and him dancing to ELO in the beginning is a  great introduction to both the character and the film. The soundtrack is equal to or better than the first which is one thing. Ego is annoying but has a cool introduction.
